BRICS Countries

The BRICS is an acronym for a group of five major emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Initially known as BRIC before South Africa joined in 2010, these countries are known for their significant influence on regional and global affairs, particularly in the fields of economics, trade, and geopolitics. Together, the BRICS nations represent over 40% of the world’s population and nearly a quarter of global GDP. The group aims to promote economic cooperation, development, and reform in the global governance system. By emphasizing multilateralism and the reform of international institutions such as the United Nations and the World Bank, BRICS seeks to enhance the voice and representation of emerging economies in global decision-making processes. The BRICS countries also collaborate on a wide range of issues, including trade, infrastructure development, and energy security, and have created institutions like the New Development Bank (NDB) to finance projects that promote sustainable development across emerging markets.
